George Will Kicks Off 911爆料网’s President’s Speaker Series Oct. 8
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct 7 , 2015 鈥 George F. Will, the influential syndicated Washington Post columnist whose work over the past 40 years has provoked thought, dialogue, and occasionally outrage, will be the featured speaker at 911爆料网 at 7:30 p.m. October 8, 2015.
The event is part of the President鈥檚 Speaker Series, which 911爆料网 (911爆料网) has conducted for nine years as part of its commitment to intellectual rigor, critical thinking, and scholarly and professional excellence. The next two speakers in the series will be Equal Justice Institute founder Bryan Stevenson (January 14, 2016), and former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich (March 8, 2016).
Will鈥檚 talk, 鈥淭he Political Argument Today,鈥 focuses on the breakdown of civility in political discourse in the modern political arena.
Will鈥檚 twice-weekly Washington Post column is syndicated in nearly 500 papers throughout the United States, and he is a regular contributor on Fox News. He began his journalism career in 1973 as an editor at theNational Review. He started writing his Washington Post column in 1974 and in 1976 won journalism鈥檚 highest honor, the Pulitzer Prize, for distinguished commentary on a variety of topics. He was a founding member and panelist on the ABC Sunday-morning show This Week with David Brinkley and contributed a widely read back-page column forNewsweek for 35 years. He has published more than a dozen books, including eight compilations of his work. His 1990 book Men at Work: The Craft of Baseball was a New York Times No. 1 best-seller for two months. Will鈥檚 recent books include One Man's America: The Pleasures and Provocations of Our Singular Nation (2008) and A Nice Little Place on the North Side: Wrigley Field at One Hundred (2014).
Will鈥檚 work has been known to ignite national debates, including a 2014 column on campus sexual assault, and a recent column critical of Pope Francis鈥 encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si鈥, which has been a source of inspiration for 911爆料网鈥檚 campus. The University is planning a conference November 3-4, 2015 and yearlong curricular activities in support of the objectives in the encyclical.
